Wärtsilä appointed the first designers for the Smart Technology Hub

In August Wärtsilä announced the building of the Smart Technology Hub, a centre for research, product development and manufacturing in Vaasa, Finland. The Smart Technology Hub will be built before the end of 2020. Since the announcement, the project planning has proceeded with a strict schedule and the planning phase of the Smart Technology Hub has been put out to tender.

The first designers appointed for the Technology Hub planning phase are:

Architectural design: Sweco Architects Oy
Construction planning: A-Insinöörit Suunnittelu Oy
HVAC-, electrical- and sprinkler planning: Granlund Oy
Acoustical planning: A-Insinöörit Suunnittelu Oy
Fire safety design and consulting: KK-Palokonsultti Oy
BIM-coordination: Sweco PM Oy

”We received a lot of good offers from the industry´s actors. We chose the consultants not only based on how competitive their offers were, but also on the basis of their knowledge, experience and resources since this is a particularly big and challenging project”, Wärtsilä Finland´s Managing Director Vesa Riihimäki says.

During fall the planning of the Smart Technology Hub have proceeded according to the timetable. “In combination with the Smart Technology Hub we are also building a Smart Partner Campus inside the Hub. The Smart Partner Campus is a platform where research and product development is conducted together with companies, start-ups and academia as well as with Wärtsilä´s collaboration partners, customers and suppliers. Last week we published an innovation platform through which interested parties can sign up for the Smart Partner Campus”, Riihimäki says.

The total investment in the Smart Technology Hub will be in the region of EUR 200 million, consisting of office- and factory buildings, logistics and infrastructure. Wärtsilä invests EUR 83 million in modern testing and production technology for the hub.
