DHL appointed to Wärtsilä’s partner for the new logistics centre in Vaasa, Finland

Logistic Center Wärtsilä rajattu

DHL Supply Chain (Finland) Oy will operate the new logistics centre of technology company Wärtsilä. The logistics centre will be part of Wärtsilä’s Smart Technology Hub, a new integrated centre of research, product development and production, which will be completed in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa during 2021. Logistics operations will be moving to the new centre during spring 2022.

The construction work of the logistics centre, approximately 14,500 m2 in size, was started in June and the facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2021. After the construction is finished, DHL Supply Chain will implement the indoor infrastructure in cooperation with Wärtsilä, utilizing latest logistics technologies and automation solutions, and run the future operations of the centre.

”We have been cooperating with Wärtsilä in the Vaasa region since 2017. Smart Technology Hub’s logistics centre is a significant next milestone in the partnership between our companies, which we are most proud of. Smart Technology Hub’s logistics centre will be one of the most outstanding projects in the field of contract logistics in Finland in the near future. A number of our global resources have already contributed to the planning of the future operations model, which will utilize automation and be a forerunner in the market,” says Juhamatti Joensuu, Area Director, DHL Supply Chain Finland.

”Our long-term cooperation with DHL Supply Chain will be moving now to a new level, as we start to jointly develop the operations of our state-of-the-art logistics centre. The new operations model will streamline the flow of materials from the logistics centre to our production premises and contribute to the reduction of goods transportation in the city area, thus decreasing the carbon footprint and noise pollution. At the same time, the ecosystem around Smart Technology Hub will be further strengthened by the presence of a prestigious global logistics provider,” explains Vesa Riihimäki, Director, Delivery Management, Wärtsilä Finland Oy.

Wärtsilä’s total investment on Smart Technology Hub rises to over EUR 230 million. The proceeding of the project and the ecosystem forming around it can be followed at www.sustainabletechnologyhub.com.
